Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, #LetsReadCampaign

Assalamualaikum,

Okay, for the first book review in the #LetsReadChallenge, I’ll write about a new book that I’ve recently read, which is Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs.

My ex-lecturer, Mr Kamal, suggested that I read this book on our iftar ‘date’ about a week or two ago. We were at Empire Gallery Subang, and while waiting for Maghrib, we decided to pay a visit to Popular. As we were looking at the books on display, he mentioned that this particular book is a good one, and that I should try reading it one day.

Knowing Mr Kamal, I knew that I’d like his suggestions, so I went and bought it straight away. Though I didn’t think I would actually read it straight away, considering how I have like 40++ books on my shelf in my room, waiting to be read since I bought them over a year ago. But somehow, once I started reading this particular book, I couldn’t stop.

I’m not much of a fan of thriller / mystery kind of book, but somehow this book managed to catch my attention. And in less than four hours, I managed to finish off all 352 pages of this book.

Here’s the short summary of the book, as written at the back of the book:

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. And a strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here—one of whom was his own grandfather— were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.”

It is a super nice read, and I don’t want to write anything else, in case I get carried away and spoil things for you. But I really do suggest you to go and read this book, especially if you’re a fan of YA (young adult) fiction, or a Fantasy / thriller / mystery booklovers.

Oh, and for an added bonus, here’s a book trailer for you 🙂

Let me know if you’ve read the book, and tell me what you think of it! 🙂

Stay awesome people 🙂
