Let’s Go, #HudFreshers

Assalamualaikum,

Hello again people. So I’m finally here in Huddersfield, have been here for almost three weeks, actually, but I never actually got around to actually updating this blog [apologies, again and again and again for it].

This week is my first official week of classes and I can legit say that I am a Master’s student at the University of Huddersfield right now. Though I can’t really say it’s going great (it has only been a couple of days and I feel like I’m not supposed to be here lol inferiority complex much please send help)

Last Sunday, my parents came up to Huddersfield for a visit (after I went down to Nottingham first to see them (+ my little brother). Took them around the University of Huddersfield campus and showed them the small little town of Huddersfield and my place, and thankfully, they liked it (I have a tendency of doing things on my own without telling them about it in advance, so they had no idea about Huddersfield nor have we been here before) (and I also have a tendency of applying to small little universities as compared to big ones in London, etc).

Life’s good, so far, I guess?

Anyhow… I’m surviving, so far. I had a ~minor~ breakdown yesterday after my class because the first two days have been soooooooooo overwhelming and I feel like I’m in wayyyyy over my head right now, but I’m climbing back up. I have friends who support me, and know how to make me feel better, and I’m grateful for my new tutors for being supportive as well.

Life as a Master’s student is definitely a lot different than it is as an undergraduate, seeing how (1) a lot of my classmates are working professionals who have had like 5-15 years of working experience (or more), and (2) it’s a LOT more on self-study and independent research and reading. I need to make the most out of my time here, learn as much as I could, from my tutors and from my classmates, and utilize as much opportunities that are available to me as possible.

Trying our a new look – does the hat suit me?

I’m back on the court!

Which brings me to a completely different topic – but on Monday, I went to the Womens’ Basketball team tryouts. Seeing as how there were not that many people who turned up (11 of us, if I recalled correctly), seems like all of us are able to stay and be in the team if we wanted to.  Though it’s been 5 years since I last played, but I’m highly considering returning to the training next week (plus I don’t really have much to do other than studying and reading, so might as well I find something else to do to occupy my time).

I also had an interview yesterday, for a part-time job. Not sure how it went (I think it went relatively okay, but I could be wrong), so here’s to hoping for good news from them soon. It’s not like a big deal, but I really wanted a part-time job so that I could (1) get some pocket money to shop for new clothes and stuff and (2) complement my studies with some work experience.

I guess, after spending 4 years in the US and working for 3.5 years of it, I couldn’t sit still? But the position that I interviewed for was different though, in the sense that it was for a permanent staff position instead of a student job. So it’s a lot less flexible that it would’ve been for a student job, but at least it pays more and is (probably) a lot more related to my course. I don’t know, I guess I’ve always been picky with the jobs that I apply for, but that’s not a bad thing, right?

I guess this is long enough of an update, so I will leave you here for now. Until next time, stay awesome people 🙂
